will be helpful for those in need I knew it had to be easy. Rather than looking at Timex for this, we can simply do:
code :
t.time_zone

Why does datetime.datetime.utcnow() not contain timezone information?

I hope this helps you . That means it is timezone naive, so you can't use it with datetime.astimezone
you can give it a timezone like this
code :
import pytz # 3rd party: $ pip install pytz

u = datetime.utcnow()
u = u.replace(tzinfo=pytz.utc) #NOTE: it works only with a fixed utc offset
print(u.astimezone(pytz.timezone("America/New_York")))
#!/usr/bin/env python
from datetime import datetime
import pytz # $ pip install pytz

print(datetime.now(pytz.timezone("America/New_York")))

wish help you to fix your issue timex is probably not started. You need to ensure it is started:
Application.ensure_all_started :timex
code :
iex(25)> Application.ensure_all_started :timex
iex(29)> Timex.compare(Timex.date({2015, 12, 1}), Timex.date({2015, 12, 2}))

Does that help I have (what I suspect is) a UTC date-time. I'd like to convert it to my local time (the timezone named America/New_York for that date-time). , I'm an idiot!
In the command that's failing:
code :
timezone = Timex.Timezone.get("America/New_York", v(2))
iex(5)> {:ok, datetime} = v(2)
{:ok, #DateTime<2019-12-02 16:27:18Z>}
iex(6)> timezone = Timex.Timezone.get("America/New_York", datetime)
#<TimezoneInfo(America/New_York - EST (-05:00:00))>
iex(7)> Timex.Timezone.convert(datetime, timezone)
#DateTime<2019-12-02 11:27:18-05:00 EST America/New_York>
Why don't have all datetime objects timezone information?

Any of those help Because timezones are non-trivial and not just simple offsets, and not all use cases need to take timezones into account.
Not simple offsets
