wish of those help Update line with print(str[wheel1(spin1)]) to print(str(wheel1[spin1])).
The issue is when you do wheel1(), python treats that as function and try to call the function. But since you are having list and want to access the value, the syntax is wheel1[i] where i is the index you want to access.

wish helps you You may use list comprehension.
code :
>>> line=[u'2001.0,0.88', u'2001.0,0.56564652', u'2001.0,0.908982970575', u'2001.0,0.842525219898', u'2001.0,0.909303285534,0.566901413923,0.463373691946']
>>> [list(map(lambda x: round(float(x), 4),i.split(','))) for i in line]
[[2001.0, 0.88], [2001.0, 0.5656], [2001.0, 0.909], [2001.0, 0.8425], [2001.0, 0.9093, 0.5669, 0.4634]]
>>> [list(map(lambda x: float(re.sub(r'(\.\d{4}).*', r'\1', x)),i.split(','))) for i in line]
[[2001.0, 0.88], [2001.0, 0.5656], [2001.0, 0.9089], [2001.0, 0.8425], [2001.0, 0.9093, 0.5669, 0.4633]]

will help you You're basically trying to call a list (self.extend = a_times and a_times = []), which is impossible.
What you'd need to do, is use:
code :
vera.extend.extend(['1.74','1.46','1.42','1.40'])
vera.extend = ['1.74','1.46','1.42','1.40']
>>> vera = AthleteList("vera")
>>> vera.extend = ['1.74','1.46','1.42','1.40']
>>> print(vera.top3())
[]
>>> vera.extend.extend(['1.74','1.46','1.42','1.40'])
>>> print(vera.top3())
[]
>>> vera = AthleteList("vera")
>>> vera.extend(['1.74','1.46','1.42','1.40'])
>>> print(vera.top3())
['1.40', '1.42', '1.46']
class AthleteList(list):
   def __init__(self, a_name, a_dob=None, a_times=[]):
      list.__init__([])
      self.name = a_name
      self.dob = a_dob
   def top3(self):
      return(sorted(set([sanitize(t) for t in self]))[0:3])

I wish this help you I am trying to extract pixel values from an image as a list: , I tried this and it works for me.
code :
from PIL import Image
i = Image.open("Images/image2.jpg")

pixels = i.load() # this is not a list, nor is it list()'able
width, height = i.size

all_pixels = []
for x in range(width):
    for y in range(height):
        #cpixel = pixels[x, y]
        #all_pixels.append(cpixel)
        cpixel = pixels[x, y]
        bw_value = int(round(sum(cpixel) / float(len(cpixel))))
            # the above could probably be bw_value = sum(cpixel)/len(cpixel)
        all_pixels.append(bw_value)

hope this fix your issue if you but braces end of a list (x.favourite_channels is list), then you get such error. if you want i'th element of list x.favourite_channels you should write x.favourite_channels[i-1] instead.
list method here does not work. It would throw: TypeError: 'list' object is not callable

I think the issue was by ths following , I cannot replicate this result, the example you've given is perfectly valid. It may be the case that you've accidentally overwritten the default list builtin by doing something like
code :
list = ...
