Understanding 2D Arrays in Java

Understanding 2D Arrays in Java

With these it helps I'm trying to figure out how to loop through all of the elements of a 2D array. I am given a 2D rectangular array of chars (someChars). I am tasked with writing a looping statement that will calculate and print the number of 'x''s in the rectangle. , If you're given a 2d array of chars then it will be declared as:
code :
char[][] someChars;

should help you out Can someone please explain why my for loop is getting an error about requiring an int but finding a double? I need my array to be a double, why does my method not work? , You are using the foreach loop incorrectly, try the following:
code :
public class RingBuffer
{
   private double[] EmptyBuffer;
   private int size;
   private int capacity;

     public RingBuffer(int capacity){
        EmptyBuffer = new double[capacity];

    }

    public int size(){
        int counter = 0;
        for(double element : EmptyBuffer){
            if(element != 0) // Testing for null makes no sense! Test for non-zero?
                counter++;
            }

        return counter;
    }

    System.out.println(tmp); // string 2
    System.out.println(holders[0]); // string 2
}
public static void main(String[] args) {
    StringHolder[] holders = new StringHolder[]{new StringHolder("string 1")};
    StringHolder tmp = holders[0];
    holders[0] = new StringHolder("string 2");

wish helps you I'm a beginner at programming with little to no experience. I want to learn Java because I feel like it's such a great language to learn from. I've been following the guides on this playlist on youtube here. If you look into it, I'm on the 32nd video and so far Java is very promising , First, in the function definition
code :
public static void change(int x[]){
change(lucas);
for(int counter=0;counter<x.length;counter++){
   x[counter]+=5;
}
lucas[0] += 5      // is it shortened form for lucas[0] = lucas[0] + 5
lucas[1] += 5
lucas[2] += 5
lucas[3] += 5
lucas[4] += 5
x.length
for (int counter = 0; counter < x.length; counter++) {
for (int i = 0; i < x.length; i++) {
for (int counter = 0; counter < x.length; counter++) {
     x[counter] += 5;     // Shorter form for x[counter] = x[counter] + 5;

help you fix your problem Math.random() returns a random double between 0.0 and 1.0, when this number is multiplied by N-i we receive a number (double) in the range of the difference between these two numbers: [0,N-i]
By adding i we "shift" the range from [0,N-i] to [i,N] and since it's a double, we cast to int in order to receive an integer.
