I wish this helpful for you Assume data.txt holds your text entries. Is this what you want (in base R):
code :
data <- readLines("data.txt");

#Optionally remove empty lines
data <- data[data != ""];

# Split based on triple asterisk entries
lst <- split(data, cumsum(data == "***"));

# Remove triple asterisk entries
lst <- lapply(lst, function(x) x[x != "***"])
print(lst);

$`0`
[1] "Hello Everyone." "My name is James."

$`1`
[1] "Hello James!" "My name is Amy."

$`2`
[1] "Hi Amy!" "My name is Sue."

this one helps. I suggest you to use bufferedreader instead of scanner. You can use below code :
code :
BufferedReader br=new BufferedReader(new FileReader("your file name"));
br.readLine(); //it will omit first line Array x
String x=br.readLine(); //it return second line as a string
String[] x_value=x.split(","); //You can parse string array into int.

hope this fix your issue Like my comment to your question says, read each character from the file and add it to the list.
code :
void readFile(list<char> &originList, string fileName) {
    ifstream fileInput(fileName.c_str());

    if (!fileInput) {
        cout << "Can't open file: " << fileName << "\n";
    }

    char c;
    while (fileInput.get(c)) {
        originList.push_back(c);
    }

}

wish of those help So far I have the code below but as a result, the only thing that is being displayed is the page heading. I am trying to read the text file below into an array:

seems to work fine After you read the lines in, there isn't any '\n' character in your string. So, what you need to do is to join these lines by space. Just use String.join()
In Java 8, all you need is:

Hope this helps You can check the first line of the data frame to see if it has comma or semicolon as separator, and after call an ifelse statement:
