I hope this helps you . short answer
On Windows, you can use PowerShell, that is installed by default on Windows 7, and can be downloaded and installed on previous versions. With PowerShell you can do the rename as:
code :
ls | foreach-object -process {ren $_ (%{$_ -replace "-straight",""})}
ls | awk '{print("mv "$1" "$1)}' | cut -f -3,5- -d '-' | sh
PS C:\rename-me> ls

    Directory: C:\rename-me

Mode                LastWriteTime     Length Name

seems to work fine there is no return in Batch. I think, you want exit /b
code :
omsCmdLineUtil.exe process C:\test.exe Default | find "Result: [ Allowed ]" >nul && Exit /b 0 || Exit /b 1

hop of those help? I am creating a script as a .cmd and have a command that renames a folder from "test" to "test.old" on some occasions there may already be a "test.old" that exists creating a duplicate error so I implemented a very redimentry workaround but am trying to figure out how to loop this command so it adds a variable number if a duplicate exists. , You can use it :
code :
REN "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\test" "test.old"
if %errorlevel% == 1 goto :TESTDUP
goto :END
:TESTDUP
REN "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\test" "test%it%.old"
if %errorlevel% == 0 goto :END
set /A it+=1
goto :TESTDUP
:END

I hope this helps . First in linux we should use single quote instead of double quote.
And instead of ls command you can use perl inbuilt function glob
