Android Emulator: Installation error: INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE

I wish did fix the issue. It means you're trying to install an app with the same packageName as an app that's already installed on the emulator, but the one you're trying to install has a lower versionCode (integer value for your version number).
You might have installed from a separate copy of the code where the version number was higher than the copy you're working with right now. In either case, either:

Android Test in Andrios Studio gives INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE

wish helps you I was also getting this same error on a fresh install when testing in Android Studio. In my case I changed the name of the testPackageName. This was the same as the default package name.
Now the tests are running smoothly. I don't know why it worked but it did. Increasing the versionCode should have worked but it didn't.

Does that help INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE is an ADB error that means you're trying to install an older version than what's already on the device. So check your app versions in your AndroidManifest.xml or gradle files, that's what it's checking - package version. Your new package needs to be either the same, or a newer (larger) version code.
You could also just delete the existing app off the emulator before you deploy again.

To fix the issue you can do The app is already installed on device. This installed app has higher versionCode in the AndroidManifest.xml.
Example: If you try to install .apk with versionCode="30" over .apk with versionCode="20" everyhing is fine. If you try to install .apk with versionCode="20" over .apk with versionCode="21" you get [INSTALL_FAILED_VERSION_DOWNGRADE].
