wish of those help There's more to the program than this, but for now this is the trouble I'm having; I want 2 different functions, open_file() that opens up a .txt file, and then a main() that controls everything (there are other functions besides the open_file for it to control) but I can't get the main() to even open and print the lines in the file. , Assign the return value of open_file() to a variable within main():
code :
def main():
    ## open the file
    file = open_file()
    ## ...

With these it helps You might like to check whether the stack gets corrupted in between the calls to open()and read(), so that the value of the file descriptor fd_in will be changed.

should help you out Added another macro to the above; to check whether the file is opened; If it's not opened through previous macro, then am assuming it's corrupt; and printing in adjacent cell of column B as 'Corrupt'.
code :
Sub IsFileOpened()

    Dim MyFolder As String
    Dim filename As Range
    Dim MyFile As String
    Dim lastRow As Long
    lastRow = Sheets("Sheet1").UsedRange.Rows.Count

    MyFolder = "E:\Folder"
    For Each filename In Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1:A" & lastRow)
        MyFile = MyFolder & "\" & filename
        If IsFileOpen(MyFile) = True Then
           ' Do Nothing
       Else
           filename.Offset(0, 1).Value = "Corrupt"
       End If
    Next
End Sub

   Function IsFileOpen(filename As String) As Boolean

       Dim filenum As Integer, errnum As Integer

       On Error Resume Next
       filenum = FreeFile()

       'Attempt to open the file and lock it.

       Open filename For Input Lock Read As #filenum
       Close filenum ' Close the file.
       errnum = Err ' Save the error number that occurred.
       On Error GoTo 0 ' Turn error checking back on.

       ' Check to see which error occurred.
       Select Case errnum

           Case 0
               IsFileOpen = False

           Case 70
               IsFileOpen = True

           ' Another error occurred.
           'Case Else
               'Error errnum
       End Select
   End Function

help you fix your problem Basically the BufferedReader object itself is lost, there is no more way for you to access it.
But of course, the JVM might still hold some file handle for that open file. In that sense, you just create some kind of resource leak; and theoretically, when you do that very often you might run into real issues.

Any of those help Here is how you can get this to work. Instead of looking up the pre-saved/pre-transformed version of the document via Mongoose like this:
code :
// Get a version of the document prior to changes
exports.preSave = async function(doc) {
  console.log("preSave firing with doc._id", doc._id); // this ObjectId logs correctly
  if (!doc) return;

  this.preSaveDoc = await Customer.findOne({ _id: doc._id }).exec();
  console.log("this.preSaveDoc: ", this.preSaveDoc);
};
// Get a version of the document prior to changes
exports.preSave = async function(doc) {
  let MongoClient = await require("../../config/database")();
  let db = MongoClient.connection.db;

  db.collection("customers")
    .findOne({ _id: doc._id })
    .then(doc => {
      this.preSaveDoc = doc;
    });
};

I hope this helps . It appears you are missing AR:: in the ReadF definition.
On second thought you are reading into an index of neopoint that likely isn't allocated yet. You could change ReadF to read:
